The Couple

Our Love Story

Brittany and Alex’s story began in August 2012. It was the start of Brittany’s second year at McMaster, and she had again made the Mac women’s softball team.

“Hi Mom.”
“Hey Britt. How was practice?"
“Good. I think we’re going to have a good team this year. The new girls are really nice. "Hey, can we go home before we go to the bank? I’m really sweaty, and I don’t want that cute bank teller to see me like this.”
“Really! No, we’re going to stop on the way home.”

Brittany looked in the mirror and brushed her hair back into a pony tail.

When they arrived at the bank, Brittany said “He’s here! We have to try to get him.” And by magic he called out, "Next.”

“Hey there. What can I do for you?”

Brittany quickly took a look at his name tag. “I need a certified cheque to pay my tuition.”
“Oh, where do you go to school?”
“McMaster.”
“Cool, that’s where I go too. What year are you in?”
“Second, you?”
“I’m in my 4th year. What are you taking?”
“Sociology.”
“Do you play ball for Mac?”
“How did you know?”
“Your shirt.”
“Oh ya.”
“I play baseball for Mac too. Well, here’s your cheque. It was a pleasure helping you. Maybe I’ll see you around campus.”

“Oh my God, Mom! He talked to me. Isn’t he cute?”
“He is, Britt. You will have to stalk him at campus this year.”
“Mom!”

It was a quiet Thursday night at the tanning salon Brittany worked at. She finished all her tasks and was doing some reading for her English course. The bell on the door rang, and she looked up. It was him! What was he doing here?

“Hey, we meet again. Sorry, I can’t remember your name.”
“It’s Brittany.”
“Well Brittany, I’m Alex. Can you check if I have anything left on my account.”
“Sure. What’s your last name, Alex?”
“Cabral.”
“You have three sessions left. Did you want to tan tonight?”
“Sure.”
“Right this way.”

I can’t believe he’s here. I have to text Mom.

“All done?"
“Yes.”
“Here, I’ll update your account. Hopefully, I see you next time.”
“Do you want to come to a party at my place this weekend?” Alex asked.

They exchanged numbers.

Brittany never went to that party, and she never ran into Alex until the spring of 2013.

During the 5th inning of Britt’s baseball, Michelle suggested that the team go to Boston Pizza after the game on Main Street for karaoke. Brittany, of course, was in. The girls were giggling when they walked in the door. The place was packed.

“Oh my God guys, Alex is here!” Alex was heading up to the stage. He sang “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk. He had a great voice. When he finished and was heading back to his table, Brittany and Alex made eye contact and exchanged a smile.

The next night, Alex texted Britt, “Hey, I have a business called Ace Mobile Detailing. I need some help this weekend. Would you be interested in working for me?”
Britt replied, “Sure. I love cleaning.”
“Great! I can check out your skills. I’ll pick you up Saturday morning!”

Brittany cleaned cars with Alex a few times that summer and always kept his number in her phone. She joked with the baseball team about how she was going to marry him someday.

Alex graduated from Mac and was making plans to move to California. Brittany headed back to Mac for her third year and applied for teachers’ college.

June 2015 came, and Brittany is officially a teacher! Alex returned from California and moved to Oakville, living with his detailing crew and ramping up Ace Mobile Detailing for the summer. On a whim, he called Brittany even though they hadn’t talked for over a year.

“Hey Britt, it’s Alex. Would you want to come clean cars for me this summer?”
“Of course.”

The romance blossomed from there. They spent the summer going to Jays games, Osheaga in Montreal, attending a friend’s wedding, and enjoying summer parties.

Brittany’s family did their annual day at the Toronto CNE. Brittany invited Alex, but he had to work. He texted her throughout the day and asked if she could stop by that night. Alex offered to pick Brittany up at the Oakville Go station on the way back home from the CNE.

The next morning, Brittany was upset.

“Mom, Alex is moving to Vancouver. What am I going to do?”

Alex headed to British Columbia and started working for Telus. He enjoyed exploring the sites and sounds of BC and making new friends.

July 2016 came.

“Mom, I got a text today . . . from Alex. He’s back in Toronto.”
“Really, did you text him back?”
“No, I don’t think I will.”

September 2016 came.

Alex is heading to a boat cruise with friends, and Brittany is on her way to Toronto Island when they bump into each other. They chat for a few minutes and make plans for Brittany to come to Toronto for dinner and catch up. On September 23, 2016, Brittany and Alex went on their first date to Cactus Club in downtown Toronto. They were officially a couple, and their love story continues to this day.

Alex proposed to Brittany on Christmas Day 2021 with a puppy, a gesture that not only stole her heart but also marked the beginning of their marriage journey. Now, their love story continues with Caesar by their side.

Bridesmaids

Jessica Paul

MAID OF HONOUR

It all started on the baseball field back in 2011 when Jessica played for Greensville while Brittany was on the Dundas team. Fate intervened, and the following year, Jessica joined Dundas, sparking the beginning of their friendship. One of their earliest memories together is Jessica recalling Brittany mentioning Alex during their first encounter at the bank, as they sat on the bench giggling and waiting to go up to bat. From road trippin’ to Florida and back, to skiing, golfing, and picnics on the beach, their shared passion for exploration and fun has kept the spark alive in their friendship! Whether it’s a random rollerblading date or a competitive game of Backgammon or volleyball the fun never stops with JP! You will never go without playing a game when it comes to hanging out with this gal. Beyond their shared interests, they both have a deep passion for teaching and working with children. Her enthusiasm for life and support has kept them close till this day.

Marlie Annett

Marlie’s journey with the Coulson family began long before Brittany and Alex crossed paths. Dating Brittany’s brother Shawn, Marlie has seamlessly woven herself into the fabric of our family, becoming more than just a partner – she’s a cherished sister. From family gatherings to music festivals, shopping days to parties, Marlie and Brittany have shared many memorable moments together. Now, as Shawn and Marlie embark on their own journey to marriage, Brittany and Alex couldn’t be happier. Excited for the love story that lies ahead, we look forward to planning more life experiences and grow as a family together!

Nicole Da Cruz

Brittany and Alex’s New Year’s getaway to the Bahamas 5 years ago turned into more than just a vacation – it led to the beginning of a friendship with Nicole and her partner Shrif. Meeting randomly on the plane to Nassau, the four of them shared an unforgettable week together, little did they know they would have new friends back home! Despite living in Hamilton, Brittany and Nicole grew close over their shared interests in fashion, food, mixology, and travelling. Nicole, a real estate agent, even played a pivotal role in helping Brittany and Alex find their current home. But what truly solidified their bond was the addition of Mia, Nicole’s two-year-old daughter. Brittany has grown incredibly close to Nicole through Mia, affectionately calling her “Aunty Britt.” Their phone conversations can go on for hours about life and everything in between. They say sometimes the most unexpected friendships turn out to be the ones you cherish the most!

Bailey Vajda

Bailey and Brittany’s friendship began through Jessica. Jess’ unforgettable birthday parties in Dundas were where Bailey and Britt have their earliest memories of getting to know each other. As they grew closer, they bonded over rollerblading, swimming, game nights, and some fun parties! A few years back Matthew became a close neighbour to Alex and Brittany in Oakville. Brittany, recognizing a perfect match…introduced Bailey to Matt and soon, they all became family! Bailey and Brittany have now enjoyed their shared love for running, volleyball and just being together on chill nights at home. Britt has always loved Bailey’s kind-hearted nature, her passion for cats, and her dedication as a pilates instructor. Having her so close to home is just a bonus!

Charley White

Charley and Brittany’s connection began at one of Brittany’s parties near McMaster University back in 2016, sparked by fate and quickly turned into a lasting friendship. As Charley’s gatherings in her Hamilton house became a regular weekend routine, Brittany found herself drawn to her laid-back personality, loyalty, and the ease of having deep long conversations with. Charley’s love for dogs and her caring nature towards animals only deepened Britt’s admiration for her. As the owner of a dog walking business, Charley’s compassion extends beyond her friendships to her furry clients, embodying her caring and easygoing personality.

Groomsman

Matt Dworczak

BEST MAN

Despite their initial encounter involving speedo pictures for body building competitions back in Alex’s university days, Alex and Matt managed to develop a lasting friendship. Perhaps they joke about it occasionally, with Alex teasing Matt about his posing tips while wearing the infamous speedo, or about Alex’s bravery for sliding into Matt’s DMs inquiring about such a funny thing; it’s a lighthearted reminder of how unexpected friendships can come to be from even the most unlikely circumstances. Matt and Alex’s relationship has strengthened by their many adventures together, whether it’s traveling to California or working side by side at Ace Mobile Detailing. Living as neighbors in Oakville for the past 4 years, Matt has become such an integral part of Alex and Brittany’s lives, almost like a family member.

Justin Ryan

CO-BEST MAN

From the days of playing baseball together in our hometown of Ajax, Justin has been a constant source of inspiration in Alex’s life. Alex’s talent on the baseball field caught Justin’s eye early on, igniting a deep admiration that led Justin to follow in his footsteps all the way to McMaster University. Despite the distance between Ajax and Hamilton, Justin made the journey every weekend, becoming the unofficial roommate Alex never knew he needed. Justin’s easygoing nature and genuine interest in meaningful conversations have made him not just a close friend, but an indispensable confidant in Alex’s life. Whether it’s discussing the latest investment strategies or sharing workout and fitness tips, chatting with Justin for hours is always something Alex looks forward to.

AJ Cabral

ALEX’S OLDER BROTHER

We can’t overlook the influence of AJ, a childhood friend who’s been a pillar of inspiration for Alex. From their competitive sports days to AJ’s role as a dedicated father of Harper and Henry, he’s been a beacon of responsibility and strength. AJ’s passion for endurance sports has motivated Alex to focus on his own fitness journey, and their shared interest in fitness continues to deepen their bond.

Shawn Coulson

BRITTANY’S YOUNGER BROTHER

Alex and Shawn have become close through countless family gatherings, dinners and holidays. When Alex asked Shawn to be his groomsman, he jokingly warned Shawn about the abundance of golf they’d be playing—and little did they know, Shawn’s golf skills would soon surpass Alex’s! Their shared love for golf, baseball, and volleyball has strengthened their relationship over the years. Alex even recruited Shawn to join their weekly volleyball team, “SMASH,” where they continue to enjoy competition. Brittany is overjoyed to see their close friendship and eagerly anticipates making more memories together as family.

Sean Kipfer

Alex’s friendship with Sean began at a high school party, where he couldn’t help but notice Sean’s towering height. Their connection grew stronger when they discovered they were attending the same university, leading them to become roommates for three memorable years at Mac.
Alex proudly stood by Sean’s side as his best man on his wedding day in 2016. Now, Sean has embarked on a new chapter as a loving father to two beautiful girls, residing in Burlington. Despite life’s changes, Alex and Sean make it a point to reunite every summer, bonding over their shared love for baseball and golf.

Master of Ceremonies

Daniel Saull

Alex and Dan’s friendship has endured since their elementary and high school days. Despite Dan’s life as a school vice principal in England, he makes it a point to return home every summer to reunite with friends and family, including Alex and Brittany.

Their summers are filled with laughter, music, and golf. The memories they’ve shared while attending festivals and concerts in the past are countless, and the fun never seems to stop with each visit. Alex and Brittany are thrilled to have Dan as their Master of Ceremonies, knowing that his presence will add an extra layer of joy and nostalgia to their special day.
